Newport Beach Botox and Plastic Surgery Recovery

December 9, 2021Christine Pigott

After you receive a plastic surgery procedure, including Newport Beach botox, you may experience swelling and bruising. This occurs for a number of reasons. It is helpful to learn a few tips that minimize these effects so that you return to normal as soon as possible.

Causes Behind Swelling and Bruising

Bruising is a result of blood that leaks from small capillaries. Even though most of these vessels are closed during surgery, certain blood may still escape. Usually, there should be no worries. However, it may be unsightly.

Commonly, swelling is a result of trauma. The body has a natural reaction to injuries. During surgery, incisions are made, which disrupt the body’s homeostasis. To aid healing, white blood cells rush to the area. The end result is inflammation and swelling.

Ways to Minimize Swelling and Bruising

  • Apply Ice. Ice is known to lower pain and inflammation. Immediately following a Newport Beach breast augmentation or a similar procedure, you should apply an ice pack every 40 minutes. To avoid more damage, you should never apply ice directly to your skin. It is best to place the ice pack in a towel.
  • Compression. After a breast augmentation Newport Beach CA procedure, you may be fitted with a compression garment. This decreases swelling. It raises circulation to the area so that the healing process occurs quickly as well.
  • Avoid Hot Water. Although you may want to take a warm bath or a shower, hot water may increase swelling. It is better to limit your time in water and to keep it cool.
  • Keep Hydrated. Even though you may think that drinking a lot of fluids will increase swelling, this is not the case. When your body is adequately hydrated, healing occurs faster and eliminates swelling and bruising.
  • Eat Properly. It is essential to avoid salt after surgery. Salt will only cause more swelling. Instead, your diet should include eggs and yogurt. These items are rich in vitamin K, which lowers swelling.
